The Internet has brought about a huge impact and changes
the ways we do things and on many aspects of our society. During Tun Dr.
Mahathir Mohammad era, he has implemented the Multimedia Super Corridor (MSC)
as the concerns of development of ICT initiative in Malaysia. The
Malaysia’s Internet initiative and development began in 1990 with the
establishment of Malaysian Institute of Microelectronic Systems (MIMOS) and the
subsequent launching of Joint Advanced Integrated Networking (JARING) as the
main Internet Service Provider.
Digital technology already penetrated the whole world
impressively. However, what do you see the impact of the digital consumption
brings either towards the use of mobile phones and laptops used by all users
around the globe? Basically, social media showed a healthy growth especially in
Malaysia because people nowadays can easily access the Internet due to the
development of new media and digital consumption. The statistics from Malaysia
Digital Association stated that Malaysians spends an average of 18 hours using
the Internet each week, of which 7.2 hours a week are spent on watching online
videos vs. 10.6 hours on TV. 42% of Malaysian netizen watch TV content and
movies via the internet while 80% of Malaysian netizen stream or download online
video content each month.

We can say that Malaysians are really depended on the
internet nowadays. The diffusion of the internet in Malaysia makes us easier to
assess and satisfy our needs. Meanwhile, Facebook recorded the top social sites
accesses by Malaysians via desktop.

While for mobile phone, Carat Consumer Connections System
2015 mentioned that Malaysians cannot live without their mobile phones because
it is essential for them to stay in touch with people. These are the trends of
internet access through the social media via the digital media.
In a narrow scope, students’ life with their smartphones
and laptops every day consumed the use of internet really make sense today when
we talk about the role of digital devices. Most students tend to use their
mobile phones to connect with the people around the campus, get in touch with
their families and also for their sake of satisfaction of social life. So we
can say here that the development of digital technology really makes a huge
impact for all walks of life thus we must appreciate the good use of
technology itself for the beneficial aspects.
The internet may very be the greatest invention of technology, in my opinion. And the industry of digital technology is ever growing. For me, I am already impressed with what is available for us today. Isn't is amazing to have been able to connect with everyone from all over the world, and to be able to gain information from various part of the internet, all in all can be done with a device that fit inside your own pockets?
ReplyDeleteAnd there is always new technology being develop, like I have mentioned above, ever growing. We have to adapt to the rapid change or we would not be able to keep up.
As a student, it is important for me to be well-informed of news and event happening around the world. News of digital technology can be useful to students in their respective industries and sectors. For example, job employment opportunity may arises if one is handy with computer-literacy skills. Personally, I feel it is the single most important basic skills for a student to acquire. And the other being one's soft skills, of course.
The trends of digital technology is going one way; and that way is up.
Good sharing, Amir Hazim! We have to adapt with the upcoming technology that keeps updated from day to day as it is with the purpose to ease the human kind. Why not we use it the right way and make it fun, right?
Delete"Right now, with social networks and other tools on the internet, all of these 500 million people have a way to say what they're thinking and have their voice be heard." -Mark Zuckerberg
ReplyDeleteAlso a wisdom from Bill Gates to ponder,
"The internet is becoming the town square for the global village of tomorrow."
All those quotes (and many more) came from people who sees the good in internet despite having it for bad purpose. The main thing is to ease people. Although somehow we use it wrongly as it is limitless, we have to go back from the start and think of what is the main idea of internet that has been built for.
Another significant trends in digital technology that I can think right now is online shopping.
ReplyDeleteI am not (yet) a fan of online shopping. However, I cannot deny the craze of my peers and fellow Malaysians into this online shopping trend. We can see consumer behaviour is changing quite significantly where shopping is not only walk into the shop, it also includes visiting the website or the store’s social media for closer look of the products available.
I also stumble into this one information on supply chain technology. The technology is helping the fulfilment solutions in order to drive seamless customer experience during online shopping. The technology encouraged businesses to understand the entire buying journey from consumer perspectives and also removing frictions (problem regarding delivery, customer services, etc.) in all steps of the customers’ lifecycle.
Social media nowadays is more than connecting people, it also acts as a streamline supply chain. It is one of the common and effective marketing strategy in order to be visible to public. Social media such as Facebook, Instagram and also Twitter (commonly used by Malaysians) provide an open communication with consumers and improve the demand on products. Operational cost can be very high if does not planned carefully. With social media platform, businessmen can utilise cost-effective and time effective marketing strategies. Digital technology really help the economy through online business and many of the businessmen have been adapting the emergence of supply chain application.

I really hope that this information is useful to you guys :)
I agree with your statement about Malaysian society cannot live without their gadget. In my opinion, the Malaysian government should make a campaign on digital detox. Digital detox can help our society to restrain them from using any gadget during that time. In my opinion, if you are engaging with technology more than 8 hours is not good because it is like you are already alienating your life with other people. The technology development that keeps on updating the latest gadget with the incredible and cool specs makes the society more addictive. Therefore, the digital detox is needed to educate the society on how to minimise the usage of any technology, internet or devices that can harm and bring negative impact in human social life.
